Planteray ‘OFTD’ Overproof Dark Rum is a bold, classic Navy Rum that pays homage to the tradition of high–proof, full-bodied spirits once favored by sailors. A meticulously crafted blend of rums from Barbados, Jamaica, and Guyana, this expression is the result of extensive research by award-winning cellar master Alexandre Gabriel, who collaborated with seasoned rum experts to create this powerful and flavorful rum. It is bottled at 69% ABV, delivering a strong, intense profile reminiscent of the Royal Navy’s historical overproof style.
The rum features a rich combination of molasses–based rums, each with unique fermentation and distillation methods that contribute to its complexity. The Barbados rum undergoes a 72-hour fermentation, using a blend of twin column and pot still distillation, while Jamaica’s 2-week fermentation, coupled with pot still distillation, provides deep, smoky notes. The Guyanese rum, fermented for a week and distilled using the renowned Port Mourant pot still, adds layers of rich, dark sugarcane flavor, enhancing the rum’s depth.
